On November 11, 2022, the 5th meeting of the Subcommittee on Customs Cooperation "Republic of Kazakhstan - European Union" was held in Brussels. This negotiating platform was created as part of the implementation of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, on the one hand, and the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the other hand, dated December 21, 2015.

The European Union is one of the key trade partners of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which accounts for up to 30% of Kazakhstan's foreign trade turnover.

The European delegation was headed by Mr. Fernando Perreia de Pinnink, Head of the Unit of the Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission.

The Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan Miyatov K.I. acted as the Co-Chairman of the Kazakhstani Party.

During the meeting of the Subcommittee, the Parties informed about novelties in customs legislation, cooperation in the field of transit and the latest changes in the AEO program. The parties discussed important issues of cooperation, such as facilitation of trade procedures, promotion of freedom of transit, implementation of international customs and trade standards, mutual administrative assistance in preventing and combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, precursors and tobacco products.

Also, the possibilities of customs cooperation were considered within the framework of the New Central Asia Strategy adopted by the EU, aimed at improving the economic well-being of citizens, creating additional jobs and ensuring the security of the supply chain from China to Europe.

As a result of the meeting, the Parties reached an agreement: on the further development of cooperation within the framework of the Subcommittee.
