Very soon, the lovely ladies will have the main spring holiday – International Women's Day on March 8.

This day is one of the most floral days of the year, which brings with it the traditional excitement in shops and markets! As you know, the main number of flora representatives is imported from abroad.

The State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan shared interesting facts related to the import of flowers from abroad.

In January-February 2023, Kazakhstan imported a total of flowers weighing in 1,341 tons or 24.6 million pieces of buds, worth 9.5 million US dollars (for reference: operational information for February 2023 was used in the calculation).

Roses are the most popular, they were imported weighing 799 tons or 18 million pieces of buds, worth 5.8 million US dollars. In second place – chrysanthemums (weight - 134 tons or 2.4 million pieces of buds, worth 1.3 million US dollars), in third place – carnations (weight - 31 tons or 922.7 thousand buds, worth 161 thousand US dollars).

Lilies are also popular, they were imported weighing 35 tons and costing 192 thousand US dollars, other fresh cut flowers and buds (tulip, hydrangeas, linoleum, gypsophila, phoenix, iris, hydrangea and other exotic flowers) were imported weighing 376.8 tons and costing 2.2 million US dollars.

This year, flowers were imported from Ecuador (769 tons), the Netherlands (268 tons), Colombia (137 tons), Kenya (108 tons), Israel (16 tons), Uzbekistan (14 tons), China (13 tons) and Turkey (6 tons).

Also last year, roses weighing 726.1 tons or 17.4 million pieces of buds, worth 6.1 million US dollars, chrysanthemums (weight – 90.1 tons or 1.5 million pieces of buds, worth 768.3 thousand US dollars), carnations (weight – 27.8 tons or 844.4 thousand buds, worth 175.5 thousand US dollars) were imported the most.

In the past 2022, a total of 6,690 tons of flowers were imported to Kazakhstan, worth 46.7 million US dollars.

For comparison, in January-February 2022, Kazakhstan imported flowers weighing 1,559.4 tons or 20.7 million pieces of buds worth 8.3 million US dollars.

In the past 2022, Kazakhstani roses were in demand abroad in Uzbekistan, a total of 25 tons of flowers worth 94 thousand US dollars were exported.
